What is BMI?

Today, obesity is most often measured by using a mathematical formula called a Body Mass Index. BMI can be determined by dividing your weight in pounds by your height in inches squared and then multiplying by 705. For example, a woman who is 5'6" and weighs 190 would have a BMI of 31.

What does my BMI mean?

Broca-Formula

Paul Broca has invented an easy formula to calculate normal weight. Subtract 100 from your body size in cm to get the value. Reduce it again for 10% to get ideal weight.

Example:
Body size = 175 cm
Normal weight = 175-100 = 75 kg
Ideal weight = 75 - 10% = 67,5 kg

Basal metabolic rate (BMR)

The basal metabolic rate shows you, how many calories your body needs for a day, when you doing nothing.

Formula:
For men:
bmr [kcal/24 h] = 66,47 + 13,7 × weight [kg] + 5 × size [cm] − 6,8 × age [years]

For women:
bmr [kcal/24 h] = 655,1 + 9,6 × weight [kg] + 1,8 × size [cm] − 4,7 × age [years]
